Mother and Cubs, Churchill, Manitoba, Canada
8.5" x 11" Archival Pigment Print - First Edition of 25.
“Like the canary in the coal mine, the climate changes already evident in the Arctic are a call to action.” Susan Collins
Polar bear cubs remain with their mothers for survival until they are 30 months old. The cubs in this image were still less than 1 year old. What struck me most about this scene were the lengths and extremes of selflessness that a mother polar bear must go through to birth and raise her cubs to independence.
For this image I chose a wider angle of view to highlight the juxtaposition between the warm, nurturing love a mother must give her children and the harsh, frigid environment of the sub-Arctic tundra.
Your purchase helps to support a good cause! $5 from the proceeds of each sale is donated to Polar Bears International, the only organization dedicated solely to conservation of wild polar bears and sea ice.

Paper: Inkpress Rag Warm Tone 300 - this 100% cotton rag, acid- and lignin- free, museum-grade paper has a natural matte surface and slightly warmer tone. These properties compliment this image perfectly, helping to soften and warm the harsh tundra environment and bring more life to the mother-cub relationship.
